🎬 I Still Quote This Movie. Forty. Years. Later!
While I didn’t go to Shermer High, I was in high school when The Breakfast Club hit theaters—and like many Gen Xers, it hit hard. We knew all the characters, related to them, and tried to figure out which one we were. (I’m convinced I was a hybrid of many.)
I still remember the day I first saw it:
🏒 School was canceled because our boys’ high school hockey team was playing in the state tournament. Still haunts us today!
🍕 After the game, my friends and I went to theater to see the movie, followed it up with Shakey’s Pizza Bunch of Lunch, then headed back for the next hockey game.
It still feels like our Ferris Bueller’s Day Off—just a year early.
🗣️ Quoted Then, Quoted Now
This movie was quoted endlessly among my friends—and we still do it today. FORTY YEARS LATER! Where has the time gone?
“Will milk be made available?”
“I am the eyes and ears of this institution, my friends.”
“Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?”
“Don’t mess with the bull, young man. You’ll get the horns.”
“Could you describe the ruckus, sir?”
I’m guessing I’m not the only one who could go on and on…
🎟️ Why Bring This Up Now?
Just in a nostalgic mood? Nope. Maybe you know, maybe you don’t: THE Breakfast Club is coming back to theaters September 7–10 for its 40th anniversary re-release. This 40th anniversary re-release of The Breakfast Club brings back the iconic quotes, unforgettable characters, and Gen X memories that never left.
I checked my local listings and plan to go on the evening of September 9th in Wellington. While there’s no Shakey’s in West Palm Beach, where I now live, I’ll have to let that part of my memory go. The good news? My “cheaters” mean I can legally enjoy a beer while watching. 🍻
This is too good not to pass along.
If you’re going, let me know which quote still lives rent-free in your head?

Check out THE BREAKFAST CLUB 40 Year FULL Reunion – C2E2 2025—the cast reunited in Chicago this past April for the first time in nearly 40 years. Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, and Anthony Michael Hall shared stories, laughs, and a whole lot of nostalgia. And it still doesn’t appear that milk was made available…
